Manufacturing Engineer

MGP Ingredients is a leading supplier of premium distilled spirits and food ingredient solutions. Its Distilling Solutions segment provides bourbons, whiskeys, ryes, gins, and vodkas to craft and multinational brands. MGP's own Branded Spirts business is growing following the 2021 acquisition of Luxco, a top spirits producer, bottler, supplier, and importer as well as the 2023 acquisition of Penelope Bourbon, known for its wide range of uniquely blended expressions. Ingredient Solutions delivers nutritional, functional wheat- and pea-based ingredients aligned with consumer trends. The company operates in locations across the Midwestern U.S., and overseas in Northern Ireland and Mexico.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Under the direction of the Engineering and Maintenance Manager, provide engineering support to improve the production processes, improve quality and reduce scrap through root cause analysis. Lead continuous improvement projects as well as creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures. Develop, design and assist in equipment installation and plant layout to maximize overall utilization. Design and manufacture change parts for new product development. Reverse engineer existing parts to catalog and have a library to reproduce parts. This role calls for a team leader as you will have direct reports, as well as indirectly manage others.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Continuous Improvement

  • Design and evaluation of alternative components and/or manufacturing strategies for new and existing equipment and processes to improve efficiency, product quality and/or performance, and reduce cost.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist plant operators, maintenance, and engineers in diagnosing plant issues.

New Product Development

  • Evaluate new products to determine viability to run and any production line in STL or CLV.
  • Utilizing CNC router table to cut newly developed change parts per machine center.
  • 3D print replacement “emergency” parts if applicable.

Maintenance Support

  • Assist maintenance in all aspects of mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Train and mentor maintenance department on machine bottle changeovers.

Document Management

  • Create and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Develop metrics and reports to reinforce best practices.

Collaboration

  • Serve as a Manufacturing Subject Matter Expert to various committees/taskforces that support plant and company objectives.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Minimum of a B.S. in Engineering with emphasis in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
  • 2+ years in an industrial or manufacturing engineering role within the food and/or beverage manufacturing field with a strong understanding of the manufacturing process
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and equipment design.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Includes frequently used office equipment, computer software programs, manuals, books, or other written resources, hand tools, power tools, two-way radios, and other tools/equipment/resources; Includes use of sanitation equipment and lab/field equipment; Computers and Drafting software; CNC router; 3D printers; Basic hand tools; Precision Measuring tools.
